You Were Meant to Fly: Embracing the Stages of Growth in Your Journey with the Lord

Have you ever looked at an airplane and marveled at its ability to soar high above the earth? It's a beautiful sight to witness—something that was created by human hands to accomplish what seems impossible. But when we look closer at the differences between planes and birds, something profound stands out. One was crafted by the Creator of all things, and the other by human innovation. But both are destined to fly.

As business owners, leaders, dreamers, or anyone on a journey with the Lord, we can find inspiration in this comparison. Just like an airplane, we were meant to soar. We were made to rise above our challenges, to embrace new heights, and to move forward in the destiny God has planned for us. However, just like a plane before takeoff, there are stages we must go through to reach the place where we can truly fly.

The Process of Preparation: Just Like a Plane’s Boarding

When a plane arrives at the airport, it’s not ready to soar just yet. People board, supplies are replenished, and the plane undergoes a thorough check to ensure everything is in working order. This preparation is vital, and so is the process in our own lives. The Lord does not rush us into the next season. Instead, He prepares us—refining us, testing us, and making sure that we are ready for the journey ahead.

In the same way a plane’s destination can change based on the weather, the flight crew, or even technical needs, God’s plan for us may shift along the way. But don’t be discouraged when this happens; it’s all part of His divine strategy. He sees the bigger picture and knows the path we must take. What may seem like a detour is often an opportunity for growth, learning, or preparation for something even greater.

The Waiting Game: Patience on the Tarmac

One of the hardest parts of flying is waiting on the tarmac. Sometimes, the plane must wait in line for its turn to take off. The journey to the runway can feel slow and frustrating, especially when you’re ready to soar. It’s easy to wonder why it’s taking so long, or why everything seems to be moving so slowly. But in the same way, in our spiritual journeys, there are seasons of waiting—times when God asks us to be still and trust in His timing.

Have you ever felt like you’re waiting on God to move, yet it feels like time is dragging on? It’s during these waiting periods that He is working on your heart, aligning things that need to be in place before you take off. Sometimes, there’s a backup on the tarmac, or the “flight path” doesn’t seem clear. This can be discouraging, but know that the goal is always your safety and growth. God is preparing you for something bigger, and the waiting is never wasted.

The Catapult: Breaking Free and Rising

Eventually, the plane reaches the position it needs to be in, and there’s a brief stop before the real acceleration begins. At this point, the engines roar to life, and the plane races down the runway, building speed faster than you could have imagined. You might have spent hours waiting, but in a split second, you’re airborne. You’ve broken through the tension of gravity, and you’re soaring through the sky.

This is a picture of how God works in our lives. After seasons of waiting, preparation, and patience, He will “catapult” us into new seasons of growth, purpose, and success. You may feel as though you’ve been stuck in a place of waiting for too long, but when the moment comes, everything will align so quickly that you’ll be amazed at how far you’ve come.

The View From Above: God’s Perspective

Once you’re soaring in the sky, it’s important to look around and gain perspective. From above, the world looks different. What once seemed large and intimidating is now small and insignificant. God’s view is so much grander than ours, and as we rise above our struggles and challenges, we can see how small they truly are in the grand scheme of His plans.

It’s a reminder that the Lord created everything that the light touches. He holds the universe in His hands, and He sees everything in your life—from the smallest detail to the largest challenge. Whatever you face, know that it is small in comparison to His greatness.

A Prayer for Your Journey

Lord, would You remind me of how big You are and how good You are? You are the Creator of everything, and yet You see me. You know the struggles I face and the pain I carry. You see my future, and You’re walking me through the process of becoming the person You’ve called me to be.

I trust You, Lord, in the waiting and in the flying. I trust that You know what’s best for me. You are such a good King, such a loving Father. Thank You for Your perfect patience and for the process You’ve set me on. I will rest in Your sovereignty, knowing that the best is yet to come.

As you move through the stages of growth, remember that God is with you every step of the way. Trust the process, embrace the waiting, and prepare for the moment when you’ll soar to new heights, fully embracing the journey He’s set before you.
